Nylon happens to be the most
popular synthetic carpet fibre.
It offers tremendous value in
terms of durability and
maintenance. Nylon carpets may
have brilliant bright colours.
It can handle soiling and high
traffic well.
Nylon is considered one of the
strongest fibres after wool for
the purpose of floor covering.
Additional benefits are that
Nylon is abrasion resistant,
crush resistant, and stain
resistant. Special care is taken
to add the carbon element so as
to avoid static formation. To
top it all, they are always less
expensive than the wool or silk
carpets.
Nylon carpets can be woven in
the same way as a woollen
carpet. They may be a loop pile
or cut pile type. Since Nylon
takes up colour well, the
patterns created are bright and
detailed. Plain Nylons are quite
in vogue for wall to wall
coverings. Tufted carpets
require latex coating on the
backside and a secondary backing
to hold and secure the tufts.
