Carpet
padding or cushioning increases the
value of any carpet up to 50%. It adds
insulation to the carpet prevents the
carpet from slipping and absorbs noise.
It helps the carpet to retain its
strength for a longer duration of time
and helps in supporting different types
of traffic. An interesting point to be
noted, for different traffic conditions
there are different types of carpet
cushions.
The Carpet Cushion Council has provided
minimum recommendations for separate
carpet cushion used in different traffic
areas of home or businesses.

It is
suggested that for moderate and light
traffic areas like dining, bedrooms etc
cushions falling under Class 1 are
applicable. Whereas cushions under Class
2 are mainly used in all stair
applications.
In areas where there is heavy use,
firmer grades of cushions are highly
recommended. The various areas are like
halls, stairways, and areas where heavy
furniture is used. In bedrooms and
lounge areas, softer cushion may be
used.
