Located in
the southern part of India, Andhra
Pradesh (AP) is the fourth largest state
by area and fifth largest by population.
The government is outlaying in efforts
to focus on thrust areas like textiles,
power looms and hand looms. Masulipatnam,
Elluru and Warangal are the prominent
centres for carpet manufacturing in
Andhra Pradesh. In Masulipatnam,
patterns used are named after fruits and
flowers like babul, guava, ambarcha,
etc. A blended combination of blue and
green with soft yellow and pastel shades
is used.
The carpets of Elluru and Warangal in AP
reflect a strong local flavor. The
carpet weaving at Warangal is done on a
large scale due to easy availability of
cotton. Hand spun wool and jute thread
are also used as other options as fiber
used in weaving. The designs are of
Indo-Persian origin with deep green and
orange colours with off-white
background.
